The "it's five o'clock somewhere" state of mind is one that I've been craving lately. With no plans on traveling far in the near future, I'm going to feed my appetite for adventure, safely, right here in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin – the place I proudly now call home. It is, after all, the perfect slice of paradise in our corner of America's Dairyland - WISCONSIN!
With its picturesque landscapes, unique open spaces for outdoor recreation, and access to some of the best attractions in the U.S., it feels like our Village has the best of it all. I really want to use this time to kick back and live like a tourist here by capturing the spirit of travel! Dig your toes in the sand and join me in rediscovering the sights, sounds, and FLAVORS of Pleasant Prairie.
Local Flavor
I’m going to eat and drink like I’m on vacation! Though I’m excited to get back to in-restaurant dining, as the weather continues to get warmer I’m going to adapt to this new normal in inventive ways. “Pick-up & picnic” is something I’ll be doing more of by ordering food-to-go, laying a blanket out in the backyard, or utilizing picnic spaces at the various parks within the Village. It’s a win-win: supporting our local businesses and dealing with less stress when dining out(side)!
See The Sights
Whether it's hitting up the beach at Lake Andrea or Lake Michigan, or getting the opportunity to yell FORE! at Big Oaks Golf Course, there is plenty to keep the mind and body busy without the worry of crowds. Chiwaukee Prairie, a National Landmark, is sure to please those itching for an escape to the past as it also features the Kenosha Sand Dunes. One of my family’s favorite things about Pleasant Prairie is the various trail options that are simply breathtaking.
Must-Visit "Touristy" Venues
The Pleasant Prairie Premium Outlets are nostalgic for me. Each time I go back as an adult, I think of all the girl getaway trips I tagged along on with my mom and aunts. This outdoor shopping attraction has 90+ stores with high fashion (yet affordable!) finds with DoubleTree by Hilton and Fairfield by Marriot located just steps away!
21st Century be darned! Voted the BEST within the Great Lakes Region (WI, IL, IN, OH, MI), the Bristol Renaissance Faire is worth traveling back in time for! Get a taste of life back in 1574 within minutes from Pleasant Prairie, every weekend starting July 11 - Labor Day. (As a result of COVID-19, the 2020 Bristol Renaissance Fair season has been canceled. Join the fun in 2021!)
During the COVID-19 crisis, we’re not limited to our backyard, but man is the view great back here! Dip your toe in the traveling water by staying overnight at a Pleasant Prairie hotel to make your STAYcation feel official! After all, there’s no place like home – or better yet, a place that feels like home.
